HOW TO ANSWER INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

Job Interviews can be nerve wrecking to most people. The whole idea of what do I say? How do I dress? How fast will they see past my lines basically, how to answer interview questions is the challenge, thing is though, if properly prepared for, just like most things in life they become easy.

And with that let’s jump into the question

#1 TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF

This is a common ice breaker; proper balance should be maintained here. Don’t share too much or too little.

You can start by talking about personal interest that may seem unrelated to the job, for instance your love for chess, and make a smooth transition to the profession and share about your expertise.

For example you love to do presentations and this has helped you to develop leads which in turn just translates to sales

Avoid politics, religion and controversial topics.

#2 WHY SHOULD WE HIRE YOU

Now here all they want to know is what makes you the best for the position. This means selling yourself, letting them know why you are the best thing they can hope for. And NO your GPA and grades are not the point here because others have similar

Talk about your skills and accomplishments in relation to the job description and be brief

Talk about uniqueness let them know that you have given working there some thought.

So say something like “Your Company provides many services that I have experience with in a variety of capacity. I believe my familiarity with the industry and…blablabla, will make me good for this position etc

In short let them know what they stand to gain

#3 WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS?

The objective here is to see if your answer aligns with the company needs. Focus on attributes that help with the job, a skill that you have that correlates with the position you are applying for

For instance, “I am a skilled financial manager with over 10 years’ experience. I have often exceed my goals and have in fact earned a bonus on yearly basis with my current or former employee”

#4 WHAT ARE YOUR WEAKNESSES?

Everyone has a weakness. What matters is how you package it. You have to be careful, in fact you can mention a subtle skill you suck at which seem professional but has nothing to do with the job you are interviewing

For instance,  If you are applying an accounting job, you may mention that you are not that good at marketing and then add how you are reading books to help with that.

#5 WHY DO YOU WANT THIS JOB

This is a common question. It is similar in a way to why should we hire you?

When answering it you want to show the panel that you know what you want. This is why before interviews you should research the company; know their plans, vision future prospects. Emphasize your contribution but avoid making it all about you

You can say something along the lines of:

“I understand this company is on the rise and I am good at sales and marketing hence customer acquisition and retention. In my previous job I increased sales by 15%. I know I will bring my experience to this company and help you continue your 5 years of growth”

CONCLUSION

Remember when it comes to how to answer interview questions, there are many questions that could be ask and for the sake of this post I only picked 5. If you have any in mind let us know put it in the comment section and we can talk about it
